It’s been a while …

Let me introduce myself. Just a middle school English teacher and aspiring author. I’ve been at writing for a minute. Wrote my first full-length manuscript back in 2011 – queried and got rejections. I took all the writing advice and started writing another book. I finished the 1st draft back in 2017. Over the last 8 years, it’s been through multiple rewrites and drafts and 68 rejections.

But I’m a stubborn one. I will not give up. I will not take no for answer. I will keep writing, keep querying, keep praying.

In the middle of all this writing I have taught secondary English for 22 years. Now that’s a pretty involved career – leaves little time for family and a life much less writing novels. But I have persisted. My progress has not been linear. I have skimped on sleep – I get up at 3 or 3:30 on a school day – 4:30-5 in the summer.

But I came across this quote credited to Thomas Jefferson – if you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done. And so that’s how I became a morning person. I sacrifice sleep for word counts. As of today, I’m on 25,446 words of my third novel.

I hope you’ll come along as I pursue my writing journey. Join me on my successful journey to becoming a published author with a book on the New York Times bestseller list. Did I mention that I dream big? There’s no other way to dream!
